The 20/20/20 Rule

We are now spending so much time on digital devices including laptops, tablets, phones, etc. You may have digital eye strain and not even realize it.

Some signs of digital eye strain include:

  • tired and sore eyes
  • watery eyes
  • burning eyes
  • pressure behind the eyes
  • blurred vision
  • headache
  • light sensitivity

So what can you do to help reduce eye strain while on digital devices? Try to 20/20/20 Rule. The rule says that for every 20 minutes spent looking at a screen, a person should look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. Following the rule is a great way to remember to take frequent breaks. This should reduce eye strain caused by looking at digital screens for too long and allow your eye muscles to relax. While you are taking these 20 second breaks, blink your eyes completely for added benefit.
